Virgin Atlantic begins direct flights between UK to Maldives

The Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has announced that Virgin Atlantic has commenced direct flights between the United Kingdom (UK) and the Maldives.

The inaugural flight touched down at Velana International Airport (VIA) from London Heathrow Airport on October 23. The new service will operate flights three times a week, on the airline’s Boeing 787 Dreamliner boasting 31 Upper Class, 35 Premium, and 192 Economy Delight, Classic, and Light seats.

MACL stated that Virgin Atlantic’s Upper Class offers fully flat beds and an onboard bar to enjoy dinner and an opportunity to network with travel companions. Premium customers can relax in their luxurious leather armchair with its 38-inch seat pitch and enjoy priority boarding and welcome drinks. Every passenger can enjoy complimentary food and beverages, over 300 hours of entertainment, and a warm welcome from Virgin Atlantic’s cabin crew.

The Virgin Atlantic Inaugural event was attended by the British High Commissioner to the Maldives Caron Rohsler and senior members of MACL along with senior members of the local agent, Voyages Maldives. High Commissioner Rohsler said the Maldives is a top holiday destination for British tourists and that they have consistently featured among the top three nationalities visiting the Maldives for many years. She added that the UK looks forward to continuing its partnerships in the Maldives, especially as the airport expansion progresses.
