President-elect vows not to get entangled with global power struggle

President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that he will not let the Maldives get entangled with a global power struggle.

In an exclusive interview with BBC News, President-elect Muizzu said that he will begin the process of removing any foreign military personnel from the country from day one, highlighting that he has met the Indian ambassador and discussed the removal of all Indian military personnel.

As such, President-elect Muizzu noted that the presence of Indian troops could put the Maldives at risk, especially as tensions escalate between India and China. He said the Maldives is too small to get entangled with a global power struggle.

Additionally, President-elect Muizzu reiterated his pro-Maldives policy that does not favour any particular foreign country. He said that the Maldives and its independence come first but that he is not for or against any country.
