Ministry of Education has announced the establishment of a satellite schooling system in Rakeedhoo, Vaavu Atoll, marking a significant achievement in ensuring education accessibility across all inhabited islands in the Maldives.
The education ministry stated that the newly launched school in Rakeedhoo has commenced operations with an initial enrollment of three students, including second, sixth, and tenth grades. The development is part of the ministry's initiative to extend educational opportunities to islands lacking the required student population for conventional schools.
The ministry stated that satellite schools have been set up in six islands across the Maldives, including Fehendhoo and Fulhadhoo in Baa Atoll, Dhidhdhoo in Alifu Dhaalu Atoll, Thinadhoo and Rakeedhoo in Vaavu Atoll, and Kondey in Gaafu Alifu Atoll. The school in Rakeedhoo had been closed for 15 years due to low enrollment as students from the island typically attended schools in nearby islands.
To facilitate satellite schooling, each island will have a dedicated building where students can attend and teachers will be assigned for each grade. The ministry also stated its commitment to providing necessary resources for each student and arranging additional collaborative activities with other schools to enhance the learning experience.
