President-elect discusses Palestine conflict with Türkiye President

President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has spoken by phone with President of Türkiye Recep Tayyip Erdoğan regarding the Palestine conflict.

The Directorate of Communications of Türkiye stated that during the call President Erdoğan addressed the latest developments in the Palestine conflict and related humanitarian issues. President Erdoğan said Türkiye is making every effort for the restoration of calm in the region and humanitarian aid. He also congratulated President-elect Muizzu on his election win.

Following the escalation of violence earlier this month, President-elect Muizzu called on Israel to end its illegal occupation of Palestine and to return the lands forcefully seized from Palestinians. He also said Israel should recognise Palestine as an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital within the 1967 borders and allow the immediate return of refugees.

Furthermore, Maldivians have made donations to assist Palestinians affected by the Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip. As such, the International Aid Campaign (IAC) conducted a special telethon with the Maldivian media in support of Palestinians and collected over USD843,000 in donations. The Maldives has also provided USD100,000 in financial aid to assist Palestinian families, which was distributed by IAC volunteers.
