WAMCO to begin Kulhudhuffushi household waste collection

Waste Management Corporation Limited (WAMCO) has announced necessary preparations are underway to initiate household waste collection in Kulhudhuffushi City.

Speaking to PSM News, Mayor of Kulhudhuffushi City Mohamed Athif said that an agreement had been signed with WAMCO to address the waste management challenges in the city. As such, he mentioned that the local landfill will be cleared and a systematic waste collection from households will be initiated as outlined in the agreement.

WAMCO said it aims to begin household waste collection within six months. WAMCO said the procurement of essential vehicles for waste disposal is underway and efforts are in progress to recruit employees for operations in the city. Currently, the company is managing the waste deposited at the island's landfill throughout the day.

The waste management issue in Kulhudhuffushi is a major concern for the citizens of the city. The amount of waste generated on the island is increasing with daily influxes of individuals for different purposes. Therefore, finding a sustainable solution to the issue is a collective request from the residents of the city.
