Hundreds of Maldivian citizens held a peaceful march in solidarity with Palestinians affected by the recent escalation of violence in Gaza, calling for a ban on Israeli citizens travelling to the Maldives.
The Right Movement, a humanitarian organisation, led the march that began at the Social Centre in Male' City and concluded at the Artificial Beach. Participants, ranging from children to people of all ages, expressed their solidarity with Palestinian citizens in the ongoing conflict. During the march, participants voiced unwavering support for Palestine's struggle for freedom, waving Palestinian flags and holding banners and placards with various slogans in Dhivehi, English, and Arabic language.
Founder of the Right Movement Nafath Najeed highlighted that one of the purposes of the march was to demonstrate the support of Maldivian citizens for Palestinians suffering from the attacks by the Israeli military. He said the march also aimed to convey to the government the strong desire of the Maldivians to ban the entry of Israeli citizens into the country.
The continuous assaults of the Israeli army on Gaza since October 7 have resulted in the tragic loss of more than 4,000 Palestinian citizens.
