President-elect to establish fund for religion and culture research

President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has committed to establishing a special fund from the state budget aimed at supporting scientific research for the revival of nationalism and addressing religious issues in the Maldives. He made the remarks during a meeting with religious scholars held at Meerumaa Conference Hall to mark the day the Maldives embraced Islam.

Speaking at the meeting, President-elect Muizzu highlighted the significance of Islam and the Dhivehi language as integral aspects of the Maldivian identity. He asserted that the Maldivian identity can be reaffirmed by preserving the aspects.

Additionally, President-elect Muizzu pledged to revitalise the Dhivehi language and culture under his administration, surpassing the efforts of previous governments. He underscored the pivotal roles of religious scholars and educators in the initiative, urging their active participation in the transformative process. He also expressed concern that the Maldivian identity has been eroded through systematic actions, stressing the need for serious consideration and action by educational institutions, schools, and universities.

Furthermore, President-elect Muizzu cautioned against the unintentional drift of society away from Islamic thought and called for a collective effort to find immediate solutions. As such, he advocated for scientific research as the key to reviving nationalism and addressing religious issues in the Maldives. He also committed to facilitating scientific research in areas such as religion, culture, and other fields crucial to the country.

In conclusion, Muizzu revealed plans to establish a specialised ministry for the revival of the Dhivehi language, culture, and history. In addition, he also pledged to incorporate sections on Islam and the Maldivian culture into the school curriculum.
