Addu City Council orders removal of abandoned cars

Addu City Council has ordered the removal of old cars left abandoned in Feydhoo.

Addu City Council stated that the parked cars make it difficult to clean the streets. As such, the council has given the owners 15 days to remove the cars under the regulation on the removal of abandoned property in public places, streets and beaches.

Speaking to PSM News, Mayor Ali Nizar said that the council will begin towing the cars after 15 days and park them at a specified location. He added that he has no intention of destroying the vehicles.

The regulation on the removal of abandoned objects was formulated by the Local Government Authority (LGA) to empower councils to notify owners to remove their property from public places. Councils are required to give the owners 15 days to remove the property.

Moreover, the Kulhudhuffushi City Council has banned four-wheeled vehicles from parking on some streets where Raajje Transport Link (RTL) buses are scheduled to operate.

Four-wheeled vehicle parking is prohibited at Orchid Magu, Sahara Magu, Maalimi Magu, Funavalu Magu, Sarudhaaru Magu, Niyadhuru Goalhi and Bodu Ruh Dhoshu Goalhi. Vehicles parked on these roads will be towed.

The RTL bus service was launched in Kulhudhuffushi last month. Two 22-seat minibuses are used to provide the service.
