President-elect to limit political posts to 700

The Office of the President-elect has announced the decision made by the President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to place a maximum limit of 700 on political posts during his administration.

Speaking at a press conference, Spokesperson of the Office of the President-elect Firuzul Abdulla Khaleel said Dr. Muizzu's decision to limit political posts to 700 during his administration is inclusive of political appointments made to government authorities including the President’s Office, the President’s Official Residence and the Vice President’s Official Residence. He said President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s administration consisted of more than 1,000 political posts while former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom’s administration consisted of over 800 political posts. As, such he said that the number of political posts decided by the incoming Muizzu was lower than in the past two administrations.

President-elect Dr. Muizzu has made a commitment to prioritising the recruitment of well-educated individuals with expertise in relevant fields for political positions.
