The Parliamentary Judiciary committee has begun evaluating the motion to dismiss Chief Magistrate of Haa Dhaalu Judicial Constituency Ali Adam.
The motion for dismissal was proposed after the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) concluded the investigation of a case involving Chief Magistrate Adam calling and texting a woman who filed for divorce at his court. The judge has been in suspension since May 25.
In a press release, JSC stated that the investigation has shown that Chief Magistrate Adam called and texted the woman while presiding over the divorce proceedings in an attempt to form a relationship with her. The commission also received screenshots of messages sent by the judge, attempting to obtain personal information and requesting that she delete the messages.
The judge has also confessed to the allegations. As such, JSC has concluded that Chief Magistrate Adam has abused his authority based on the evidence.
