Talks held with The Democrats to form unity government

The Office of the President-elect has held talks with The Democrats to form a unity government.

Speaking to the media following a meeting with The Democrats, the Director-General of Transition Abdul Raheem Abdulla said that the discussions focused on the formation of a government that will establish justice and equality. He added that they also discussed the various issues that occurred during the government of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), noting that The Democrats was formed by former members of the MDP.

The Democrats has previously stated that it will actively participate in the administration of President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu going beyond advisory roles. As such, The Democrats expects party members to be appointed to various state positions to contribute directly to the functioning of the government.

The Office of the President-elect has affirmed its commitment to establishing an inclusive government. It stated that it has no intention of removing capable individuals based on their party affiliations, adding that competent and responsible individuals will continue to serve in the government, regardless of their party membership.
