President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has called on Israel to end its illegal occupation of Palestine. He made the statement following the escalation of violence in Israel and the Palestinian Territory of Gaza.
In his statement on Twitter, President-elect Muizzu said Israel should end the illegal occupation of Palestine immediately and return the lands forcefully seized from Palestinians. He also said Israel should recognise Palestine as an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital within the 1967 borders and allow the immediate return of refugees.
Palestinian group Hamas launched a large-scale attack against Israel on October 7, firing thousands of rockets and sending its fighters across the besieged Gaza borders, as Israel retaliated with devastating air strikes. At least 300 people were reported killed in Israel, while authorities in Gaza released a death toll of 250 in the conflict's bloodiest escalation in years, which has also left hundreds wounded on both sides.
