The Office of the President-elect has stated that leaders of all nations that have close bilateral relations with the Maldives will be invited to Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's swearing-in ceremony.
At a press conference, Spokesperson of the Office of the President-elect Firuzul Abdulla Khaleel said preparations are underway to hold the swearing-in ceremony. He said the leaders of all neighbouring countries and nations with close bilateral relations with the Maldives will be invited to the ceremony.
The Constitution dictates that the president-elect and Vice President-elect shall be sworn in at a ceremony held at a sitting of the Parliament. President-elect Muizzu has requested that the sitting be held at Republic Square.
In an interview with Indian news outlet The Hindu, Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed said that the new administration will not be anti-India or pro-China and will instead pursue a policy that is not too reliant on any one country. He also said that he has informed the Office of the President-elect that Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi will be invited to the swearing-in ceremony on November 17.
