President-elect seeks gov't assistance for transition

President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has sent a letter to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih requesting assistance to ensure the seamless transfer of power.

In the letter, President-elect Dr. Muizzu thanked President Solih for promising to provide all necessary assistance to ensure the seamless transition of government. President-elect Muizzu said that his office has been able to manage the work with President Solih's assurance. He also listed seven requests in order to carry out the work smoothly and efficiently.

The requests include the government refraining from making new investments, issuing permissions for the sale of state-owned land plots, transferring the ownership of state property, and signing bilateral agreements. Other tasks include the government refraining from commencing any project under the Public Sector Investment Programme (PSIP), changing the salary structure of government institutions, and hiring new state employees during the transition process. In the letter, President-elect Dr. Muizzu also thanked President Solih for his commitment to upholding democratic principles during the electoral process, expressing hope that the transition process would be carried out in the same manner.

President-elect Muizzu has appointed Chairperson of the People's National Congress (PNC) Abdul Raheem Abdulla as the Director General of Transition to lead the transitional committee. Mohamed Firuzul Abdulla Khaleel has been appointed as a spokesperson to provide information on the transition process.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has also formed a special committee tasked with ensuring the transition of power, which would be led by the Secretary of Corporate Services at the President's Office Hussain Amir. The Chief of Staff of the President's Office Ali Zahir will supervise the committee's operations and a team of technical staff from the President's Office will assist the President-elect's team throughout the process.
