India has stated that it is willing to hold discussions to facilitate a more convenient loan repayment method for the Maldives. The remark was made by High Commissioner of India to the Maldives Munu Mahawar during his meeting with President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
During the meeting, President-elect Muizzu and High Commissioner Mahawar held discussions on a variety of topics and expressed commitment to further strengthening the longstanding bilateral relationship between India and the Maldives on the basis of mutual respect. President-elect Muizzu highlighted that the most important decision made by the people in the election was to protect the sovereignty of the Maldives. He also asked the ambassador to facilitate a more convenient repayment method for the loans extended by India to the incumbent government.
In his response, High Commissioner Mahawar assured that India will fully respect the sovereignty of the Maldives and said that the government of India is open to holding discussions to facilitate a more convenient loan repayment method for the Maldives. He also assured of India's full support and cooperation for the development of the Maldives in various fields.
