President-elect meets first foreign dignitary

President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has held a meeting with the High Commissioner of the United Kingdom to the Maldives Caron Rohsler. It was the first meeting he had held with a foreign dignitary since winning the presidential election. The meeting took place at his residence with Vice President-elect Hussain Mohamed Latheef in attendance.

President-elect Muizzu has that he will adopt a Maldives First foreign policy that is not reliant on one specific nation and prioritises the independence and sovereignty of the Maldives. He has vowed to maintain close relations with all nations and strengthen ties with neighbouring countries as well as Islamic countries.

Additionally, President-elect Muizzu said that citizens elected him to defend national sovereignty and he assured that he will carry out a foreign policy that upholds national interests when maintaining relationships with other countries. As such, he said that his administration will hold close relations with countries that respect the sovereignty of the Maldives. He further expressed readiness to engage in meetings with foreign dignitaries during the transition period.
