MDP should be responsible opposition: President-elect

President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has highlighted the importance of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) acting as a responsible opposition movement following its defeat in the presidential election.

At a post-election event, President-elect Muizzu expressed gratitude towards MDP members who congratulated him after his election win and to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih for meeting him. He appealed to the MDP to continue to uphold democratic principles and remain a responsible opposition party after the transition of power.

Additionally, President-elect Muizzu said that the preservation of public peace hinges on the continued responsible conduct of MDP as an opposition party, making decisions through diplomatic channels. He further affirmed his commitment to impartiality, assuring that no special privileges will be extended to specific individuals.
