Transfer of government can take place on November 11

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has announced that the transfer of government will take place on November 11 if there are no legal obstacles.

At a press conference, President Solih, who was sworn in on November 17, 2018, highlighted the historical significance of November 11 and said that he would work to ensure that the transition of power takes place on that day. He also reflected on his five-year tenure and expressed satisfaction in being given the opportunity to serve the people. He thanked the cabinet ministers, parliamentarians, institutions, and citizens for their support, adding that his administration was able to work together with various parties despite political differences.

Additionally, President Solih highlighted the milestones of his administration, including the introduction of the free degree programme and other developments in education. He also said that his administration had made essential services available to more citizens and was able to overcome the economic crisis during the COVID-19 pandemic. He added that the citizens will ultimately be the judge of his performance.

During two of his five years in office, President Solih had to navigate the economic challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic while steering the country. His administration remained committed to delivering essential public services without imposing excessive financial burdens on citizens. Due to his leadership, the government was able to overcome the economic challenges, commence numerous developmental initiatives, and establish essential services equitably across the country. His administration is also notable for improving wages and providing land plots and flats to solve the housing crisis in Male'. He also provided various opportunities for students to obtain a higher education, through the free degree programme and scholarships.
