Ministry of Economic Development has been authoritised to grant permission to operate night markets.
Previously, the authority to grant night market permits was given to city and island councils. A recent amendment to the policy on issuing permits to operate night markets has transferred the authority to the economic ministry. Under the new policy, applicants are mandated to use an online form for night market requests. The ministry is also required to inform its decision to the applicant within five days of receiving the permission request.
Additionally, the policy now permits the sale of imported goods in connection with festivals. The ministry also holds the authority to withhold permits or revoke previously issued permits in cases of non-compliance with the regulations outlined in the policy.
