The People's National Congress (PNC) has welcomed the decision of the Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) to support Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, the candidate of PNC, during the upcoming second round of the presidential election.
In a statement, PNC conveyed its warm welcome to the decision of made by MDA to support Dr. Muizzu and his running mate Hussain Mohamed Latheef.
MDA made the significant decision to end its coalition with President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, the candidate of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), in favor of backing the PNC in the second round of the election. The decision came following a proposal by Parliamentarian Mohamed Abbas, which received support from Vice President of MDA Ali Mauroof, and was subsequently approved by a majority of 33 out of 36 members present.
MDA explained that the decision was motivated by the belief among council members that President Solih would not secure victory in the second round, and the results of the first round indicated substantial support for Dr. Muizzu.
