Gov't bans goods-carrying vehicles on election day

Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation has announced a ban on goods-carrying vehicles in Male' City during the upcoming second round of the presidential election on September 30.

The transport ministry stated that the decision to ban vehicles carrying goods on election day was taken in light of the expected heavy traffic, which presents security and administrative challenges. As such, the ministry stated such vehicles will not be allowed on the streets from 0600-2000hrs.

The transport ministry stated that exemptions to the ban include vehicles operated by security forces and government agencies. Male' City witnessed significant traffic congestion during the first round of the presidential election held on September 9.
