Muizzu vows to increase per capita income to USD17,000

Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, the presidential candidate of the People's National Congress (PNC), has vowed to increase the per capita income to USD17,000 during his administration. He made the remark while publicising his manifesto at a special function, which also saw a panel discussion with Dr. Muizzu and economic experts.

Speaking at the event, Muizzu said the country needs a government that can rebuild the economy. As such, he said that his administration will focus on stabilising the economy and bringing revolutionary changes to expand the economy. He also pledged to reduce the state budget deficit from 15% to single digits. He further said he would not allow the value of the Maldivian Rufiyaa to depreciate and will keep the US dollar stable. He added that he would increase the state reserve.

Additionally, Muizzu pledged to allow US dollars to be deposited to the sovereign development fund and to allow it to receive deposits monthly. He also said that he will strive to restore the country's credit rating to its 2016 levels and reestablish investor confidence. He added that he will establish special economic zones and establish a special bank for resort development as well as establish international payment gateways in the country and provide more opportunities for the youth.

Furthermore, Muizzu pledged to increase fish exports and lease more islands for agriculture. He highlighted that developing fisheries and agriculture is a top priority in his manifesto.
