All floors of Dharumavantha Hospital are in use: IGMH

Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) has refuted rumors circulating about unused floors at Dharumavantha Hospital.

IGMH stated that social media has been claiming that certain sections of Dharumavantha Hospital are vacant and that the building has been mortgaged. IGMH has dismissed these speculations. According to IGMH, the hospital is fully operational on all floors except for floor eight and floor 14, which are reserved exclusively for Maldives National University (MNU) students.

IGMH has also provided a breakdown of the hospital's floor usage. As such, floors 15-19 house private rooms, while floor 20 is designated as the presidential suite. Visiting doctors are accommodated on floors 21-23, and floor 24 serves as dedicated meeting space.

Dharumavantha Hospital was established during the administration of former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom to address space constraints at IGMH. Originally, plans called for the construction of two 10-story buildings and one 25-story building. However, upon project completion, only one building had been constructed at a cost of USD143 million, whixh significantly exceeded the government's estimated maximum cost of USD40 million for such a facility.
