Umar Naseer, who ran as an independent candidate in the presidential election, has announced his decision to not support any candidate for the second round.
In a message on social media, Umar noted that the parties of the presidential candidates that made it to the second round are the same parties that have been in power. He said that the results of their administrations have been clear and that each party's rule resulted in the increase in national debt without any solution to the country's problems.
As such, Umar said that both parties get an 'A' in corruption and that he has no interest in supporting them. He also said he does not wish to participate in any work to further increase debt while letting crime run rampant. He added that he and his team will be actively involved as an opposition party during the administration of whichever candidate assumes office.
Additionally, Umar said that his team aims to contest every seat in the parliamentary election with the same pledges he made during the presidential election. He also said that he has won enough hearts during his campaign to start a significant political movement. He further highlighted that his campaign spent a total of USD6,500 and came ahead of candidates whose campaign costs were in the millions, showing that voters would rather see a safe and peaceful country.
Eight candidates contested the first round of the presidential election. Umar came in fourth with 6,343 votes or 2.87% and has announced his intention to run in the 2028 presidential election.
