ECM seeks additional election officials

The Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) is seeking additional election officials for the second round of the presidential election.

Over 5,000 officials were active during the first round of the election and ECM has highlighted the need to hire more officials to be stationed at polling stations for the second round. Interested individuals can submit the application online or at the ECM headquarters.

ECM is accepting applications from individuals over the age of 18 who are not senior members of any political party or campaigning for any candidate. They should also not be a close relative to a candidate. Applicants should have the educational credentials and experience necessary to fulfill their duties as an official. ECM will only accept applications from individuals who are not serving a sentence over a criminal offence.

On the day of the election, the presiding officers at polling stations will receive a USD97 wage while their assistants will receive USD78. In addition, officials will receive USD65 and reserve officers will receive USD32.

A total of 282,803 individuals are eligible to cast votes for the second round of the presidential election on September 30. ECM stated that the new voters' list includes 408 new names of individuals who will be eligible to vote in the second round. The voters' list for the first round included 282,395 with over 27,000 new voters. ECM placed 574 ballot boxes at polling stations on the first round and has decided to place an additional box at polling stations with more than 500 registered voters in the second round.
