Local council employees to receive allowance

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has decided to provide a 35% allowance for employees working at local councils.

The Spokesperson at the President's Office Miuvaan Mohamed highlighted that President Solih made the decision to increase the allowance of administrative workers by 35% in May but that local council employees were not included as beneficiaries. As such, the decision to provide the allowance to local council employees was made to address their concerns.

Additionally, Miuvaan said that the decision abides by the administration's efforts to empower local councils in accordance with the Decentralisation Act. President Solih also took into consideration the pay gap between employees and council members when making the decision. As such, the local council employees will begin receiving a 35% allowance starting next month.
