President pledges to provide flats, land to island residents in Male'

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has pledged to provide flats and land plots to residents of islands who have lived in Male' for 20 years.

At a campaign event in Male' City, President Solih said that he is as focused on solving the housing issues for individuals who moved to Male' as he is on solving it for the city's residents. He noted that residents of islands have to move to Male' at a great cost and face challenges in finding proper housing.

As such, President Solih pledged to commence a housing scheme for those who have been registered in Male' for 20 years. He said that the plan is being finalised to provide a permanent solution to residents of islands living in Male'.

Additionally, President Solih highlighted the ongoing work to provide housing to residents of Male' and said that 19,842 have been awarded land plots during his current term. He said that a housing bank will be established and loans will be provided to allow them to build homes. He also assured that 16,923 residents will receive flats as 4,000 apartments are being built and contracts have been signed to build 4,000 more apartments. He added that he will commence more housing projects in his second term.
