HRCM advises against attempts to disrupt campaign activities

The Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) has urged political leaders not to endorse or support efforts aimed at disrupting campaign activities.

The statement comes in response to an incident where certain individuals attempted to disrupt a campaign event attended by First Lady Fazna Ahmed. HRCM has strongly condemned the interference with a campaign event in Hulhumale', which was attended by the first lady.

HRCM emphasised the fundamental right of all individuals to engage in campaign activities, seek support during elections, and interact with candidates as part of the political process. The commission further stressed that it is the personal responsibility of each citizen to respect the electoral rights of candidates and their campaign endeavors.

Additionally, HRCM urged political parties and political figures to refrain from endorsing or promoting any actions that may disrupt campaign activities.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission of Maldives (ECM) has also advised against obstructing campaign activities.
