First Lady says attempts to obstruct campaign will not succeed

First Lady Fazna Ahmed has stated that no amount of obstruction and harassment will stop her from campaigning for President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. She made the remark in a Facebook post after members of the opposition interfered with her door-to-door campaign at the Hiya flats area in Hulhumalé.

In her post, First Lady Fazna said that two individuals, who are known opposition members, followed her during her visit to Hulhumale' Phase II, attempting to disrupt her campaign with offensive language. She noted that their actions inadvertently drew more attention to her campaign, as she was invited to more households.

Additionally, First Lady Fazna said that Parliamentarian Ali Niyaz called Hulhumale' Council Member Ibrahim Shujau and opposition presidential candidate Dr. Mohamed Muizzu during the incident and sent him a message. She said that Dr. Muizzu did not respond and that the opposition is evading responsibility by attributing the incident as a protest from members of the public.

Furthermore, First Lady Fazna said that while she is not intimidated, the incident was a serious matter. She also expressed gratitude towards the people who sent supportive messages after the incident, adding that she remains steadfast in campaigning for President Solih.

The Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) has urged candidates and parties to refrain from actions that may undermine the peaceful electoral process. The commission stated that obstructing campaign activities is unlawful.
