President goes door-to-door in Male'

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has begun a door-to-door campaign in Male' City to gain support for the second round of the presidential election.

The main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) stated that President Solih would be visiting households in Male' every afternoon. He is being accompanied by cabinet ministers during his visits, including Minister of Defence Mariya Ahmed Didi and leaders of the ruling coalition. First Lady Fazna Ahmed is also conducting a separate door-to-door campaign and has visited households in Villimale' and Hulhumale'.

President Solih has said that he will recover from the loss in the first round of the presidential election and win in the second round. He said that MDP has since conducted surveys and obtained enough information to acknowledge the mistakes they have made in the initial campaign. As such, he said that a plan has been formulated to allow the next campaign to reach out to more people and urge them to come out to vote in the second round of the election.

The second round of the presidential election is scheduled to be held on September 30 as none of the candidates received 50% of the votes to win in the first round. The two candidates who moved on to the second round were the candidate of the People's National Congress (PNC) Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, who received 46% of the votes, and the candidate of MDP President Solih, who received 39%.
