Muizzu pledges to form ministry for council empowerment

Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, the presidential candidate of the People's National Congress (PNC), has pledged to establish a ministry for local council empowerment.

At a campaign event in Nolhivaranfaru, Haa Dhaalu Atoll, Dr. Muizzu criticised the current administration for not sufficiently empowering local councils and vowed to provide them with full authority in accordance with the Decentralisation Act. He said that the councils are operating independently from the government and ensure that they face no challenges in providing public services.

Additionally, Dr. Muizzu said that there are numerous projects in Haa Dhaalu Atoll that have still not been completed and pledged to fast-track the projects. He also noted the large land area of Nolhivaranfaru and said that he would commence numerous development projects on the island and expand local tourism. He added that the projects will include the development of roads, the harbour, and healthcare.
