About 2,000 people excluded from previous housing projects submit complaints

Ministry of National Planning, Housing, and Infrastructure has stated that over 2,000 individuals have submitted complaints concerning their exclusion from government housing allocations since 2018.

The planning ministry initiated an application process in August to address the housing needs of those who had not yet received government housing. It was noted that a significant number of individuals had been issued land or flat allocation documents as part of housing projects in 2018, with more than 11,000 individuals benefiting from various projects.

Minister of State for National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure Akram Kamaluddeen explained that the surge in complaints prompted the initiative to open complaints, which aims to explore additional opportunities for those affected.

Meanwhile, Senior Executive Director at the Ministry of National Planning, Housing, and Infrastructure Mohamed Arif pointed out that many of the housing documents and agreements were not properly recorded within the ministry, highlighting a lack of information management. However, he said that the government continues to issue flat and land allocation documents in accordance with official records and legal regulations. He also said that changes in government should not result in document cancellations.

Some individuals have pursued legal action to challenge allocation documents issued by previous governments, leading to compensation payments by the government in certain cases.
