Maldives has a democracy similar to developed countries: ECM

The Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) has stated that the Maldives has a form of democracy that is similar to the most developed countries.

In his message on International Day of Democracy, President of ECM Fuad Thaufeeq highlighted the successful efforts in establishing democratic principles in the Maldives and said that the purpose of a democracy is to establish a people's government. He noted that the efforts, which began in 1932, have resulted in the Maldives now having a form of democracy similar to the most developed countries.

Additionally, Fuad said that the most important aspect of a democracy is that citizens can choose which state leader they wish to represent them. He also said that democracy allows the voice of the minority to be heard and represented in the government. He called on citizens to continue their efforts to develop and strengthen democracy in the country.
