Changes to Gedhoruveriya flat list viewable at portal

Ministry of National Planning, Housing, and Infrastructure has stated that changes are being made to the list of flat recipients under the Gedhoruveriya housing scheme as the ministry evaluates complaints, and that status changes will be viewable at the Gedhoriverin Portal.

The list of flat recipients under the Gedhoruveriya housing scheme was published on August 8 and the ministry accepted complaints until August 22. A total of 20,697 individuals submitted applications for the Gedhoruveriya scheme. Out of these, 14,489 applied for a three-room apartment and 6,208 applied for a two-room apartment. The ministry stated that all eligible applicants will receive flats under the scheme.

The ministry is currently ensuring the accuracy of the information provided in the forms submitted by eligible applicants on the list before publishing the final list. The ministry stated that it will take the appropriate action in accordance with the agreement made when submitting the forms to the Gedhoriverin Portal in cases where the information in the forms cannot be verified.

Under the Gedhoruveriya scheme, Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation Limited (FDC) signed the loan agreements for the construction of 4,000 new housing units in Hulhumale' Phase II with two Indian companies in September 2021. As such, 2,000 housing units are being developed by NBCC India Limited, and another 2,000 housing units are being developed by JMC Projects (India) Limited. A total of 32 towers that are 17-18 storeys high are being developed as part of the project.

The construction of 13 of the towers, which consist of 1,600 housing units, is progressing quickly and the government aims to complete and allow tenants to begin living in one of the towers by the end of the year. The apartments will consist of two-bedroom and three-bedroom units. The two-bedroom units will have an area of 650sqft, while the three-bedroom units will have 900sqft.

Additionally, FDC recently contracted India-based Kalpataru Projects International Limited (KPIL) to build an additional 4,000 housing units in the Greater Male’ Region. The project is valued at USD165 million.
