Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has begun the construction of the junior college in Velidhoo, Noonu Atoll.
Vice President of the Velidhoo Island Council Mohamed Ali said that the junior college is important for local students to attain more knowledge and skills after graduating from school. He said that the council realised the need for a junior college after it received great praise for its electric workshop. As such, he expressed confidence that the junior college will greatly assist in the efforts to build a capable young generation.
Ministry of Higher Education contracted MTCC to develop the Velidhoo Junior College in August. The company is tasked with completing the project within nine months at a cost of USD772,000.
The Velidhoo Junior College is to be developed as a single storey building in a 10,225sqft land plot. The junior college will have a smart classroom, an ICT laboratory, an area for administrative services, and a library. The college will also be equipped with multipurpose workshops for vocational programmes for various fields of study. The higher education ministry has announced that it aims to commence teaching activities at the college within a year.
