Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, the candidate of the opposition People's National Congress (PNC), has stated that the citizens have sent a strong message. He made the remark while speaking to journalists after the first round of the presidential election.
Incumbent President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and Dr. Muizzu have moved on to the second round after failing to gain 50% of the votes to win the election. The preliminary results show that Dr. Muizzu received 46.15% of the votes while President Solih received 38.71% of the votes.
Speaking to the media, Dr. Muizzu said he is pleased with the results and expressed confidence that he will win the second round. He highlighted that the leadership of the main opposition, consisting of the PNC and the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), is discussing the prospect of forming a coalition with other parties. He also thanked citizens for coming out and voting for him.
