Presidential election going smoothly: ECM

Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) has stated that the presidential election is going smoothly.

At a press conference, Vice President of ECM Ismail Habeeb said that additional officials are being transferred to polling stations where voters complain of long queues. He also noted several other complaints, including the a case of procedural misconduct at the polling station in Rasdhoo, Alifu Alifu Atoll, which led to the dismissal and replacement of two officials. He added that another complaint regarding a voter taking photos inside the polling station in Thulhaadhoo, Baa Atoll, has also been investigated.

Around 58% of eligible voters have cast their ballot so far, which are around 164,981 voters. The eligible voting population for the presidential election is 282,395, including over 27,000 new voters. Over 5,000 election officials are active during the election, along with 1,700 observers and monitors.
