Nazim promises military modernisation

Mohamed Nazim, the presidential candidate of the Maldives National Party (MNP), has unveiled his plans to enhance the capabilities of the country's armed forces. During a campaign rally held in Hulhumale' Phase 2, Nazim announced his commitment to providing the military with modern equipment and comprehensive training to bolster their skills.

Nazim outlined his vision to equip the army with the latest weaponry and ensure that soldiers receive the necessary training to excel in their roles.

Furthermore, under an MNP-led government, Nazim pledged to employ cutting-edge technology for the surveillance and monitoring of the country's sea and air regions. This would involve the use of drones for aerial surveillance and robots, as well as remotely operated modern vehicles, to monitor the seabed.

In addition to strengthening the armed forces, Nazim also expressed his intention to establish a system that would allow the police to carry out their responsibilities independently. He criticised previous administrations for hindering the police and military from fulfilling their duties effectively.

Addressing the issue of drug trafficking, Nazim asserted his commitment to combating the problem vigorously. He announced plans to impose the death penalty on individuals involved in large-scale drug smuggling into the Maldives, highlighting the severity of his stance on this issue.
