Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure has contracted Azzrova Maldives Private Limited for the construction of waste management centres on 20 islands in the northernmost region of the country.
The project is to be implemented in three zones including Haa Alifu Atoll, Haa Dhaalu Atoll, and Shaviyani Atoll. Azzrova Maldives has been awarded the contract to establish waste management centres in these three zones within eight months at a cost of more than USD6.9 million. The project is being funded by loan assistance from the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID )e and the government of the Maldives.
The government is giving special priority to strengthening waste management in the islands. As such, the government is concurrently working on similar initiatives to establish waste management centres in the Greater Male' Region and other atolls across the country.
