Frontline prison officers have begun wearing body-worn cameras.
Maldives Correctional Service (MSC) stated that all frontline prison officers have undergone mandatory body-worn camera training and that the use of the devices would assist MCS to understand situations in real time and further enhance service delivery. Body-worn cameras will be used at all times when dealing with prisoners and will also be used in special operations inside the prisons. The devices will also be used to livestream the transportation of high security prisoners.
In the event of an incident inside prisons, video and audio recordings from the body-worn cameras will be available for investigators. MCS stated that the body-worn cameras will make prison officers more responsible and accountable and will play an important role in ensuring the safety of prisoners and prison officers. A total of 51 body-worn cameras will be used in prisons.
