Ilyas Labeeb, the presidential candidate of The Democrats, has presented a vision for the comprehensive development of all regions within the Maldives during a campaign event held in Male' City. He expressed his commitment to the vision, highlighting various key points.
At the campaign event, Ilyas stated his plan to bolster local tourism by increasing the number of resorts and guesthouses, expanding international flight services at airports, addressing the housing crisis, and reducing duties on imported goods. He expressed belief that the vision will be transformative for the entire nation.
Additionally, Ilyas detailed his strategy for the development of Addu City, which involves establishing a seaplane hub, a transshipment hub, and enhancing the maritime transport system. His vision encompasses providing financial support to boost tourism, promoting homestay tourism, expediting road construction, and extending financial assistance tailored to the capacity of guesthouses.
Furthermore, Ilyas outlined his vision for the growth of Fuvahmulah City, designating a specific area for commercial and cargo activities, setting up essential facilities, and organising commercial units at the harbour for business purposes. He also proposed extending the runway at the airport in Fuvahmulah by an additional 1,600m. The vision encompasses the introduction of food processing and packaging on the island, with swift loan approval for business proposals within 15 days.
In another facet of his North and South vision, Ilyas envisioned the establishment of a light manufacturing plant in Dhidhdhoo, Haa Alifu Atoll. He said the plant would enhance the value of agricultural products and facilitate the production and sale of various crops. In addition, he pledged to provide favorable tax incentives to support the tourism industry in the southernmost region, offering Tourism Goods and Service Tax (TGST) cuts for resorts, hotels, and guesthouses during the first three years, followed by a 50% tax discount for the subsequent seven years.
