Qasim Ibrahim, the presidential candidate of the Jumhooree Party (JP), has committed to spearheading the development of Addu City and prioritise the expansion of tourism in the region.
At a campaign event in Hithadhoo, Addu, Qasim voiced his concerns about previous efforts made by the government and private companies to boost tourism in the city, citing the lack of experience in the industry as a hindrance to success. As such, he said the foremost goal would be to expand tourism in Addu under his government.
Additionally, Qasim pledged to reopen the Shangri-La Resort and Herathera Resort within six months of his election. He also revealed plans for land reclamation in Addu, aimed at developing resorts within five years and generating job opportunities for local residents.
