Tourism Employees Association of Maldives (TEAM) has announced its support for President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, the presidential candidate of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), for the upcoming presidential election.
In a press release, TEAM praised President Solih's administration for ensuring the rights of workers in the tourism industry like no other before. TEAM also highlighted its collaboration with international organisations to protect employee rights, emphasising the successful implementation of a minimum wage and improved salaries for resort workers. Additionally, the association pointed out the legal requirement for resorts to pay a 10% service charge, the establishment of a robust monitoring system, and legal amendments preventing unjust employee dismissals.
Furthermore, TEAM noted significant changes made in response to the requests made by resort employees, such as modifications to school holidays and regulations preventing unauthorised entry into resorts. The association also expressed the belief that granting the government a second term is the best way to support tourism workers, citing President Solih's commitment to launching a special housing scheme for resort employees in the next term.
