MTCC to develop four harbours and complete beach nourishment project

Ministry of National Planning, Housing, and Infrastructure has contracted the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) to complete four harbour development projects and one beach nourishment project. The agreements were signed by the Director General of the Planning Ministry Fathimath Shaana Farooq and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MTCC Adam Azim.

MTCC is tasked with developing harbours in Maarandhoo and Thakandhoo in Haa Alifu Atoll, Fodhdhoo in Noonu Atoll, and Gemanafushi in Gaafu Alifu Atoll as well as completing a beach nourishment project in Rasdhoo Madivaru Finolhu in Alifu Alifu Atoll.

As per the harbour development project in Maarandhoo, MTCC is tasked with completing maintenance dredging operations of 9,000cbm, new harbour basin dredging operations of 45,000cbm, and channel dredging operations of 1,700cbm. The state-owned company will also build a 60m revetment, 150m breakwater, 17m groyne, and a 215m quay wall. It will also repair the existing 194m quay wall, build a ramp, and a jetty as well as construct a 2,291sqm pavement and install navigational and harbour lights. The value of the project is USD2.9 million.

The harbour development project in Thakandhoo includes harbour basin and channel dredging operations of 16,000cbm and construction of a 58m revetment, 161m breakwater, 98m sand-filled breakwater outer revetment, and 244m quay wall. MTCC will also build a ramp, and a bridge, and construct a 3,000sqm harbour pavement and harbour lights. The value of the project is USD3 million.

The scope of works for the harbour development project in Fodhdhoo includes the new harbor basin dredging operations of 31,000cbm and the construction of a 165m revetment, 145m breakwater, and 130m quay wall. It also includes the construction of a jetty and 600sqm pavement and the installation of navigational and harbour lights. The value of the project is USD3.5 million.

Additionally, MTCC is tasked with completing the harbour development project in Gemanafushi by completing maintenance dredging operations of 38,000cbm and new harbor basin dredging operations of 65,000cbm. In addition, the company will construct a 201m geobag revetment, 11m breakwater, 221m sand-filled breakwater outer revetment, 210 sand-filled inner revetment breakwater, and 405m quay wall. The project also involves the construction of pavement and bridge and the installation of navigational and harbour lights. The value of the project is USD4.6 million.

Furthermore, MTCC is tasked with completing the beach nourishment and shore protection project in Rasdhoo Madivaru Finolhu by completing beach nourishment operations of 2.6 hectares and constructing a 415m geobag revetment. The value of the project is USD1.8 million.
