Qasim Ibrahim, the presidential candidate of the Jumhooree Party (JP), has stated that he is confident of receiving USD600 million in grants to repay the country's USD1 billion debt by 2026.
During the presidential debate, Qasim said that he would change the existing tax system in various ways but does not intend to introduce any additional tax. He also said he would harmonise taxes in various sectors and import duties.
Additionally, Qasim said that he will prioritise the interest of the citizens in his foreign policy and will not kowtow to other countries. He also said that he will focus on educating the youth and build them up into useful members of society. He further pledged to increase job opportunities for the youth and provide a USD454 allowance for people over the age of 65.
Furthermore, Qasim pledged to provide fee healthcare to all citizens and said that his manifesto includes measures to improve the country's justice system and economy. He also said that his manifesto has measures to improve the political and foreign affairs of the country.
