Polling station officers to wear body cameras: MPS

The Maldives Police Service (MPS) has announced that officers on the frontline at polling stations will wear body-worn cameras during the upcoming presidential election.

Speaking at a press conference regarding 'Operation Blue Wave' for the upcoming presidential election, Deputy Commander of the operations Superintendent Ahmed Muslim explained that extensive preparations have been undertaken in collaboration with various institutions and departments throughout the year. He emphasised that all officers involved in the operation have received the required training.

Additionally, Muslim further disclosed that MPS has been responsible for ensuring security during the printing and transportation of ballot papers. He said that special measures are being implemented to guarantee the safety of presidential candidates participating in the election. He also said that frontline officers at polling stations have been equipped with body-worn cameras to enhance security during the election.

Furthermore, Muslim mentioned that MPS is closely monitoring the security situation surrounding the presidential election, with no reported incidents so far that could disrupt a free and fair electoral process.
