President pledges to develop housing units, roads in Fonadhoo

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has pledged to develop housing units and roads in Fonadhoo, Laamu Atoll in his second term.

At a campaign event in Fonadhoo, President Solih provided details of the development plan he would implement in Laamu Atoll if he were elected for a second term. He also noted that Fonadhoo has a large number of government offices and pledged to develop an office complex. He further vowed to develop housing units and develop the roads on the island.

Additionally, President Solih said that main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has envisioned a major development initiative for Gan and Fonadhoo in order to increase the regional population to 25,000 in 10 years. He said that the development of the Gan Tertiary Hospital and the Gan Cancer Hospital is part of this vision. He also highlighted the plan to develop the regional airport to international standards and develop a commercial sea port and said that facilitating the direct arrival of tourists and goods from abroad will bring about a revolutionary change to the atoll. He further pledged to develop sports facilities that will be able to host international tournaments.

Furthermore, President Solih detailed his development plan for Fonadhoo, which includes the development of an office building for the education centre. He also pledged to develop an indoor sports complex and upgrade the harbour.
