The Democrats express readiness to work with like-minded parties

Ilyas Labeeb, the presidential candidate of The Democrats party, has stated readiness to work with like-minded parties that share common values. He made the remark on a programme aired on PSM News.

Addressing the question of potential coalitions with other political entities in the course of the presidential election, Ilyas shared his willingness to collaborate with those who resonate with the party's policies. He clarified that such decisions would be subject to consultation with the party's council.

Shedding light on the core values of The Democrats' manifesto, Ilyas explained several pivotal policies. He highlighted the party's commitment to formally recognising the earnings of self-employed individuals, such as fishermen and taxi drivers. Additionally, he pledged to prevent the devaluation of fish prices below the USD1.6 threshold. The manifesto also underscores the determination to streamline access to Aasandha insurance, curtail the costs of travel tickets from Male' to outlying islands, and extend financial support to landowners in these locales.

He criticised the government's perceived lack of investigation into cases of missing persons and unresolved murders promising to rectify it. He affirmed his commitment to thoroughly investigate these cases, prioritising justice and accountability.

Furthermore, he vowed to allocate a significant 30% of his cabinet to young leaders.
