Mohamed Nazim, the presidential candidate of the Maldives National Party (MNP), has pledged to introduce a special pension scheme for farmers and fishermen.
At a campaign event in Villingili, Gaafu Alifu Atoll, Nazim highlighted the challenges fishermen face in receiving financial support from banks and noted that previous governments were negligent towards fishermen. He pledged to introduce a special pension scheme, which would allow farmers and fishermen to receive regular payment 20 years after they register.
Additionally, Nazim pledged to develop a 200MT fish canning factory and a 1,500MT fish processing facility at the Kooddoo Fisheries Complex. He also vowed to reduce travel costs by 20% and build a slipway, a sports complex, and a theme park in Villingili. He added that he would connect Kooddoo and Villingili by building a bridge if he were elected president.
