The government has amended the regulations to allow the registration of state-issued land plots to be issued by a designated agency.
The Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure has introduced the second amendment to the regulations concerning the registration of state-owned and private land plots as well as the buildings constructed on them. The amendment specifies the entities authorised to issue registrations, which encompass city councils for land plots under their jurisdiction, the relevant agency responsible for maintaining land plot records, or the agency overseeing land allocation as part of government housing projects.
The regulations specify that permanent registration shall be issued to recipients of land plots allocated under government housing projects. If the project site has not been reclaimed or divided into plots, the relevant agency can hand over a document to the recipient, confirming land ownership. The agency that issued the registration also has the authority to nullify it, in accordance with the specified rules.
The amendment to the regulations comes at a time when the government is in the process of allocating over 9,000 land plots in the Greater Male' Region. Previously, land registrations could only be issued through island councils and city councils. However, the amendment allows the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure to also issue registrations.
